Bruno, a cross license is a negotiated agreement. It can be royalty-free, require a one-time payment, royalties as a percent of sales, percent of profits, dollars per unit, etc. The terms for one party don't have to be the same as for the other (e.g. Company A can pay a one-time fee while Company B pays per use). Agreements can be for a specified time period or perpetual. In short, anything goes.
