Rudedog, if CPQ's total revenues are around 24 billion, how can they fit 22 billion of revenue from non-desktop enterprise business into what you say is 40-60% of the total business?

Seriously curious...

Rudedog, Re: Enterprise Systems Market

You stated:
"Dell will need to develop a service arm to really develop penetration into that space. Excluding desktops, the enterprise systems market is in excess of $120B for platforms alone, Dell does maybe $1B in that space. CPQ does about $22B. Dell may eventually go there but not with their current business model."

Could you elaborate on the enterprise systems market in general and the platforms market in particular? Is that in excess of $120B for platforms PER YEAR?? I'm curious as to Dell's & CPQ's role as suppliers to this market. ie. what hardware, etc.

Thanks,

Duncan

Rudedog, trying to define markets and markets vs. products can get very tricky. Most companies define these things as needed to suite their financial reporting and marketing/sales requirements.

How do you think Dell will fair with respect to competing with the CPQ/DEC company? IMO, I think Dell has one major battle on their hands.
