This seems like a novel use of the word "junk" in investing. I am used to the term junk bonds, where the bonds have a BB rating or lower, but I have never heard of "junk equity". I suppose it connotes the same potential high risk and possible high reward. I have never heard of a depressed stock being called "junk" before.
