Comparing newspaper articles August 1997 with August 1998:

I have just taken a recent day. and compared newspaper articles, based on the posting of de Jager's site. This is by no means a representative comparison.

A few trends can still be seen:

- A year ago almost all articles appeared in tech magazines only; now we see a lot in mainstream newspapers

- A year ago there was little on 'contingency planning'; SEC stepping in; news on insurance companies; now there is a lot.

- 1997: Little news on international Y2k developments; now a lot.

- 1997: no mentioning of 'Y2k survivalists'; 1998 almost every day (still in a chucking tone though ..)

- 1997: almost nothing on embedded system Y2k issues; now a lot.

John

B.t.w, I read a nice summary on these trends some time ago:

- 1997 was the Y2k year of the IT community;
- 1998 is the Y2k year of the business community;
- 1999 will be the Y2k year of the general public.
