Peregrine To Combine Help Desk With
SAP Monitoring

elp-desk vendor Peregrine Systems Inc. will tie its service-desk
application to Envive Corp.'s application-monitoring product in a
combination that will alert users to SAP R/3 problems and help fix
them before the system fails.

With the integration, Envive's ServiceAlert for R/3 would monitor
SAP systems for current and future problems. When it encounters a
potential glitch, it passes a message to Peregrine's ServiceCenter,
which then produces a problem ticket so that the help desk can
avert or at least quickly resolve the situation. The companies claim
that the combination would give IT organizations proactive
monitoring capabilities that would typically be found only in a more
expensive management framework.

The system can be set up so that if multiple problems break,
ServiceAlert can trigger problem tickets of different priority levels,
letting IT organizations fix the most critical errors first.
ServiceCenter stores all error and resolution data in a central
repository so that IT groups have a record of their actions. That
gives them a blueprint for handling future R/3 problems.

Peregrine will bundle Envive ServiceAlert for R/3 with
ServiceCenter. The bundled version is available now.

The ServiceAlert integration is one part of Peregrine's SAP R/3
integration strategy. The company is also working on integration
with SAP's human-resources and materials-management modules.

An excellent idea and a harbinger of things to come in the ERP software business, IMHO, of course. SAP really does need to take new initiatives based on the advantages of the internet.
