Good point, R2K. I've been following most of the conversation on the farming problems, and couldn't agree more that the growers are being severely squeezed. I read somewhere recently that the wheat in a loaf of bread is worth less than a penny, and that a dairy gets less than 50 cents a gallon for milk. The family farm is more of an ideal than a reality.

I live in cattle country, and I'm here to tell you, that as bad as things are for farmers, they are much worse for ranchers. I won't bore everybody with a litany of complaints, but suffice it to say that between the environmentalists and the National Government, folks better enjoy "cheap" beef while they can.

Oh yeah--i forgot--my fruit tree friend still had to have all the trees pruned, fertilized,, the land tilled------all for nothing--farming is hard work-most people do it cause they like it-but there is nooo guarantee--i could go on about other problems that can destroy one's crop but won't-i think i'm getting emotional here- have nothing to say about govt giving out money-just wanted to say that farming is hard but satisfying for those who like it!!!as long as they don't go bankrupt first.... redwood
