You're saying the same thing I'm saying, in different words. The OptiPlex is a network-ready commercial machine designed by Dell. Compaq's Network-ready machines are the DeskPro line. The Dimension is designed as a stand alone, the comparable machine in CPQ's line is the presario.

I don't question the quality of the Dimension line either. It uses the Intel motherboard, Intel has good designers. This is the basis for GTW's entire line, as well as many other companies, and it is a respectable product. Presario is lower in cost for the same configurations, partly because they use non-Intel CPUs in many models (the AMD K6) and partly because they integrate more components directly onto the motherboard, which saves money at the expense of future adaptability.
