DELL Split possibility

Marc

DELL has sufficient shares authorized to do a 2:1, 3:1, or 4:1. Management has thus far shown superb judgment in the timing of their press releases, split announcements, etc. They would get twice as much publicity out of two splits as they would from one, so, IMO, we should expect a 2:1, followed by another 2:1 towards the end of next year. The only reason I can see which would argue for a 3:1 is that it would get the stock price lower and make it more affordable for the small investor.

BTW, I've heard it said that "DELL's no gorilla". Perhaps so, but it sure seems to like bananas!

DELLish, 3.

I believe that DELL will announce 3-1 split (along with impressive earnings) to achieve a share price (105/3=$35 per share) more competitive with CPQ, which is trading at about $35. A recent article I read stated that DELL and CPQ were competing to become the top distributor of PC's. CPQ is rebounding from the inventory problems it had at Christmas and has changed advertising to place more emphasis on online sales. IMHO, we are are abound to witness a struggle of titans for dominance in online distribution. An apparently equivalent stock price would be an important consideration in the struggle for future investor support.
