Off topic, Carl why do you think PC industry will be in the toilet in '99?

Pardon my nosiness. Your postings are so educational, I decided to look your bio, and noticed the following...

<<Prediction: Personal computer industry in toilet by '99, workstation by '01>>

Do you think the Netputer is going to cause this? Or is this more like the vision in Terminator 2 where the internet attains consciousness and self-awareness in early '99 and launches everybody's nuclear weapons? Or will AMZN rob so many Americans of the spiritually-healing experience of bricks-and-mortar shopping that we start WW III? Or What?

Best Regards,
Tom

Carl, excellent.<My guess is that the daytraders exert a significant influence
on the number of shares available. A daytrader who cannot
go short is crippled when trying to trade a stock. Consequently,
they have to be able to borrow shares, and those borrowed
shares aren't available to the general public to short. My
guess is that daytrader activity (which occurs on big volume
days) causes borrowing of large numbers of AMZN shares.>

Right on 'shares aren't available to the general public', in any quantity.
Now guess who they are available to?
I'll give you one clue Their not here on SI or MF.
