I was raised to believe it was always better to be safe than sorry. If you prepare and nothing happens, what are you out? You can always use the stuff. I was also raised to believe you make your luck.

Long time readers of the thread will remember that I said my grandfather got his family through the depression through panning
dust in the mountains of N.M., flagging pronghorns and shooting them in the face with a WWI 45 auto. and farming "land so poor it would take a section to raise hell".
Basic skills are great, I just went to the Adams county fair, and was heart gladened to see the number of 4-H kids with projects in this years fair. The preserves were beyond words. Sewing & pies by 10-12 year old's that could make many a grand-mother blush. Garden produce - WOW. and this has not been the best year.
Just keep panning, many people are getting a "wage" from it now.
