Here's a positive article on CNN regarding back to school PCs in which iMac is featured quite positively.

hugh,

>>consumers would look at the 150 megahertz Cyrix offering and comparison shop to the Intel 166's and purchase on the assumption that the 166 was faster...

I have a feeling that when the PPC starts edging towards 1GHz and if Intel does not keep up then this attitude will turn in favor of the PPC. Of course, if Microsoft was into hardware they would just add a divide-by-2 on the input to the CPU clock and double the system clock going into it: voila! The 266MHz becomes a 532MHz chip and it becomes obvious to the consumer that a 532MHz machine must be better than a 400MHz machine. They could even use slogans such as "New MS processor runs at half the duty cycle of an Intel processor!".

Cheers,

Norm

Re comparing Intel and PPC cycles:

Despite the fact that this would seem to be an impossible task, I would say Apple was pretty effective with the snail, bunny, steamroller, shark, etc. So effective, that it almost seems like Macs are now perceived to be faster which I don't think is the case for most users for most tasks (read: things other than esoteric Photoshop masks on giant images).

Re a MS Office bundle: that's sort of happening with the $100 rebate when you buy Office with an iMac.
