Dear Kevin: In general Body shops are where you take your Auto to be repaired if it is damaged, usually by a collision. I have heard that in Great Britian body shops refers to places to have YOUR body repaired, like some kind of Parlor but ALAS in the computer world body shops are merely those places that find and correct errors in software utilize BODIES (people) instead of MACHINES like software programs designed by ALYD and PTUS. Originally, it seemed that people didnt really trust those "machines" and preferred the body shop route. However, lately it seems there have been some complaints about the accuracy of the body shops and as the year 2,000 draws ever nearer there may just not be enough time for the bodies to fix all the errant code. Thus it is believed by many that "machine shops" like ALYD will now shine. JDN

Kevin-- JDN hit the nail on the head. When most of us refer to "bodyhops" (programmers) we are talking about cos. like imrs, cbsl, synt and mast. When we say "toolshops" (automation) we are refering to tava, ptus, crsyf, seec, cmnd and a few others. And then there's iaic which is a hybrid of sorts. "flatsville"

Kevin -

What are bodyshops?

A fancier name is "consultancy." Companies that supply (hopefully) warm bodies.
