Ibexx,

Thanks for finding that article. I can see 3coms now burning the midnight oil trying to catch up with that technology and they'll all be lining up for the Camino chipset.

I can't wait for September:

"...An Intel spokesman declined to discuss Camino specifics, stating only that more information will be released at the
September Intel Developers' Forum."

Thread,

A fellow SIer asked me several questions via PM, and my response is as follows. Since the issues being discussed may be of general interest, I decided to post the answers in the open forum as well:
____

Re. RMBS, here are my personal thoughts:

1) The RMBS-era will start in 1999, but won't mature until 2000-2001 and beyond, thus I plan to hold the shares (at least) until then and perhaps indefinitely as long as the fundamentals do not change. The fundies of RMBS have changed--only for the better in the last 6 months or so.

2) Nothing wrong with drawing revenues from royalty/licensing fees. That's how Microsoft/Bill gates made it big time, so did all high-margin software companies. Manufacturing companies are viewed negatively in some respects by Wall Street because of their high capital outlays and cyclic nature (ie. all chip companies); thus, they are invariably accorded a much lower P/E multiple. (Look up P/Es of Intel vs Microsoft).

3) I think RMBS at this juncture is a very safe investment, but I would never put all eggs in one basket--it's just common sense and basic discipline.
