I have heard that these blimps have a 10 year life & do not
require constant launchings & landings. One of the partners in
the Sky Station project is United Solar of Troy, Michigan, which
is jointly owned by Energy Conversion Devices & Cannon. United
Solar manufactures thin film photovoltaics. The solar power
allows these blimps to have a long life. Not being an engineer, I
have no idea whether this concept is workable, but I will say the
list of participants in quite impressive.

Mike, Be advised that every rocket launched crosses that commercial airspace you are so worried about. I think it's no big deal.
