The fact that Amazon.com didn't develop their own "technology" (yea, sure) or do something in this direction sooner (and cheaper) tells me they have basic flaws in their vision that they are now forced to try to correct.

--------
That is a good question, Rob.....

so what is wrong with purchasing the best product, already used by the competition.....to gain a competitive advantage? ....and inflict a little pain.....<G>

Hey, Rob, what about a large user base e'tail biz...purchasing a HIGH MARGIN ( PORTAL)biz?.......(EDITORIAL COMMENT : Wait a minute,,,and I will tell you something for a change).....IMO, Margins cannot help but improve...even with an UP THE YING YANG increase in Marketing expenditure...

As opposed to a high margin Portal Biz (a YAHOO)...purchasing a low margin ...small user base e'tail non-portal biz.....

So how is this going to effect overall 22 percent margins for "the Amazing one"..?<G>

Mark, as I pointed out weeks ago, do some research on the subject and see
what's out there on the deep technical discussion sites and under-way at
several companies before you start taking about how great or unique the move
was.

Necessary given Amazon.com was uncapable or too late to develop it
themselves? Yes. Unique, no.<<

There you go again ranting on about nothing that was said nor implied. Maybe not a unique move but smart...and i have a good idea what technology is out there and coming in the pipeline. Perhaps you should take a lesson in reading comprehension.

The fact
that Amazon.com didn't develop their own "technology" (yea, sure) or do
something in this direction sooner (and cheaper) tells me they have basic
flaws in their vision that they are now forced to try to correct.<<

That's what the bears said about Msft.

Boom, The Lastest analyst research: By Juniper communications:

Pricing Strategies: Lower Cost Online Creates
Rapid-Response Pricing Mandate
Due to the ease, immediacy, and low cost with which
price can be monitored and changes implemented,
merchants should develop rapid-response pricing
practices-constantly evaluating supply, demand, and
the competitive environment, weighing their relative
importance and adjusting price accordingly.

Shopping Bots: Leveraging Intended Purchases to
Drive Volume
Comparison shoppers making intended purchases
represent the sweet spot in the online market and will
continue to do so for the next two to four years.
Shopping bots will be an effective tool to acquire
these potentially valuable customers; merchants that
block them do so at their own peril.
