"Bet on Intel's upside" .pdf article Uses voice recognition as an example of a killer app that could cause a dramatic upside to the PC biz. Basically states that something will eventually come along to create large upside demand for high-end processing. fabtech.org

Gene, Gary Ng of Intel had speculated on Hong Kong being the problem a week or more ago. Thank you for finding the link. Apparently, Intel had been using Hong Kong as a trans-shipment hub of some kind. I'm wondering if closing of two plants in Oregon and the Hong Kong problem are independent. The scenario would be as follows. 1. June. Due to Intel price cuts distributors postpone orders. 2. Late June. early July. Intel with too much supply decides it's a good time to shut down the two Oregon plants. Might have also been a good time for equipment changeover etc. 3. July 6. Hong Kong airport boon-doggle begins. Either parts or whole product caught in transit. 4. July 26th or slightly before. Semiconductor demand is stonger than possible. Orders coming in strong. Between Hong Kong and the possible miscalculated shut down of the two Oregon FABS, the shortage gets critical. Pentium II-300s, Pentium II-400s or Pentium II 266s are hit first. 350s aren't that popular but 333s are. They must have had a good supply of 333s. Jim Regards, Jim
