Fed liquidity Hasn't the fed been injecting a lot of liquidity recently?

They talk about tightening but what they are doing and may do might be the opposite.

Short-term: I agree with the majority view on this bearish thread
that it is likely to be up. There is some real buying in the
market, and a short-term bottom seems to have formed. But I guess
this could be very, very short-term (a couple of days).

I think DELL results on August 18 could be important. One analyst has recently downgraded them from .40 to .29 most others are still at .4 If it comes in at anything like .29 I think that could majorly affect sentiment.

I noticed recently that the analyst consensus for profit growth rates for the next 5 years is 12% per annum. Given that 5-6% would be historically a reasonable average (I think) the adjustment could be a major shock when it comes.

Monday Sentiment?

Monica is out of the news for the moment, the President
acting
presidentially: good

No help from Asia; seems to get worse steadily, but not at
crash levels yet: mixed to bad

Bull/bear sentiment; bullish bears, bearish bulls (?): mixed
implications

SPX futures: slightly negative: not too bad

The sentiment reading is decidedly mixed (worse than Friday
morning) and I think that the market can go anywhere this morning.
If a rally should develop (like a snow ball, reinforcing itself),
it will be important to watch when the sellers start selling
again (earlier than on Friday?). At least we know that Goldman
Sachs, planning to go public, will be a strong buyer. That should
provide some support if the selling does not turn into panic
mode (not expected for today, but if one were able to guess it,
it would probably not occur in the first place).

Good trading to all

Phil
