Computer Telephony Magazine, March 1998 issue, there is a 4 page ad from NMSS called "Open Telecommunications and High Availability-Fueling the growth of the Telecommunications Industry" Here is what they say about IP Telephony: Virtually every major long-distance carrier in the US and many international carriers are trailing IP telephony transport equipment. In addition, infrastructure equipment suppliers are in the process of designing carrier-class IP telephony gateways which will require support for high availability technology. Several have announced plans for commercial deployment of these services in 1998/99. The inherent savings from voice compression and the flexibility and efficiency of combining voice and data on a single network are the driving forces behind this fundamental change in network architecture.
