The knife murder stuff is a red herring, Duncan. Not a very original argument, used frequently by the pro-gun lobby, however. Unfortunately for those who are killed with them, knives have many very useful purposes, and are used only incidentally in murders. It would therefore be impossible to ban them, although of course you know I would like to try!! I have tried to find international statistics on knife deaths before, and could not, but you are welcome to spend some time searching the web for them. If you are seriously arguing that a lot of people are killed in England with knives because they are not privileged enough to have guns, you would have to prove that. Another fact about knives is that the technology has changed very little since the cave men invented them when they sharpened the first stone to a pointed edge. It is almost impossible for a student to massacre a bunch of his classmates with a knife, for example. They just do not kill fast enough, or efficiently enough, for that. Do you think the founders of this country imagined that their words would arm many of us with automatic weapons when they decided that militias should be armed to protect our young nation from foreign invasion? I doubt it!! This gun stuff in America is all a mass insanity, as we can see from the international statistics. Like Jesus, I think they would puke if they came back and saw what had happened to America.
