I don't think AMAT's CMP is doing well enough to be filling any Reqs since the rest of the company is contracting. Many companies advertise with no intention of hiring in the near future just to get a database of candidates. The conference call after earnings should enlighten all of us to AMAT's state of business, I will be pleasantly surprised if Morgan doesn't announce a dismal near term outlook. He will maintain the long term outlook is terrific and say the turn around is still hard to forecast. My take is you can't forecast a turn around when you have no orders to back the statement, but everbody is hoping it will happen soon. I hope all the articles about price increases and chip shortages are accurate, but I have a bad feeling it is a bunch of smoke and mirrors, watch out for the funds dumping Monday and Tuesday before the earnings and cc. It is hard for me to believe there are buyers at $35 when the earnings projections for '99 are dropping to around $1/share. The funds will abandon ship if they think this will be dead money for 12 months, AMAT's fiscal year ends in October so next summer seems the time for the stock to reach new highs again, not this fall. I hope things improve next week but seriously doubt they will for at least 6 months at Equip companies.
