Yes, there is a limit to how long grains can remain in storage. The longer the storage time, the lesser the quality, the more delivery price gets docked to the seller at the time of the sale.

Just as flour in the Tupperware Cannister can get "bugs" in it, so does stored grain. Tis why the commodities markets pay so much attention to "carry-over" between crop years.

Rule of thumb used to be (all things being equal) 1 year old grain reduced by 18-20% in price from new crop.
