wlcnyc, note that Empire's "free" trades come with a $3.00 postage/handling fee (thus not exactly free) and only apply to market orders where they can direct orders based on payment for order flow rather than best execution.

Bill, thanks for the information about Empire Financial. It's always good to have alternatives available. I checked out their web site and it appeared that that the free commission is limited to market orders only. That's what I really like about Web Street Securities - the free commission applies to limit orders also. And I have a lot more flexibility with the minimum price for the stock being >= $ 2. But Empire's free commission did apply to both Nasdaq and Exchange Listed stocks which is a plus albeit for a minimum of $ 5 at market. Anyways, I appreciate the information.
