High price connotes high quality to many people. It dawned on me today that products that are slashed in price or seem like deals to the eye often are overlooked as cheap and tawdry products. I wondered if that is why Iomega has not been too quick to cut it's prices. If Reeboks were selling at $10.95 a pair, wouldn't you wonder what's wrong with the product? Maybe they're going out of style. Who wants to be out of style? Maybe the materials will fall apart after a few months. I have no idea what goes into making Reeboks, but high quality usually means a high price. If I pay a higher price for shoes, I along with others most often naively assume better quality. Most consumers understand that you get what you pay for. Psychology would say that even though somebody elses products might be as good or better, various nuances in marketing could cast one's products as discounted "Payless" products.

I for one am not unhappy about Iomega's products even if the price pinches a little from time to time. They're solid work horses. There are occasional lemons, but that's what warranties are for. To protect the customer. My office had a Zip drive that crashed under warranty. Without uncomfortable hassles, they're shipping a new one out immediately.
