Luke - re: "Probably more people would want one if they were made more "appliance like" In general, one doesn't interact with an appliance - you open the door , stick something in, press a button or two and walk away. Computers are INTERACTIVE - you generally have to make an effort to put something in to them in order to get something worthwhile out of them. And that INPUT is always changing - it isn't a piece of toast day after day after day. It's like a piano - haven't you heard people say "I'd love to play the piano - if it was more 'appliance like' " So, people with initiative PLUS talent learn how to play the piano, and others just burn their toast.
