Your explanation makes sense.

However, Intel seems intent on "clouding the issue" by tying the problem to BOTH the Xeon and 450NX chip set.

I'm getting the feeling that Intel doesn't want to fess up to a design problem with the XEON/Deschutes/Pentium II.
