CPQ threaders say they are shipping 30,000 units per day!!
What an astounding company. I feel lightheaded. I need to return to the other side for more spice.

Dell has got to be shipping closer to 20,000 machines a day - IDC shows nearly 1.8M per quarter, or 600000 per month. Dell sells a lot more machines using large contracts to corporate customers than they do over the web.

RE<<:However, I have trouble envisioning any institution--particularly a bureaucracy, which would order that many machines with a requirement that they be delivered simultaneously, or which would want to install them simultaneously.>>

I know this is late, but I'm just catching up. I work for a large company and FYI, we replaced ALL (>20,00) of our desktop computers in a 3 month period. I don't know if you think this is significant number or not. This was a global replacement. We got (unfortunately) IBMs. They are all on lease and we are doing this again starting in 3/99. I don't know who's supplying but I doubt it will be Dell (bohoo) since our company wants service worldwide and apparently Dell does not cover the entire globe. We'll see though
