Probably the semiconductor equipment area would be best for the first stage of a real upturn. In that area I like AMAT, KLIC, CYMR, and in the SRAM group price range, MTSN. :-) I suffered a similar fate pricewise with ISSI as befell you with ALSC. In 1995 Alliance (ALSC), Integrated Silicon Solution (ISSI), Cypress Semiconductor (CY), and Integrated Device Tech.(IDTI) were all flying high with the SRAM boom. They all have essentially the same chart patterns with successive bear market rallies on the way down which were great for traders but not for true believers. Now they are all scraping their lows, but I believe that ISSI (I own it) is the purest commodity play of that leaky boat lot.
