Cayenne's ObjectTeam Helps To Build The New Volkswagen Beetle Volkswagen's Production Facility Standardizes on Cayenne Software's ObjectTeam

German Car Maker's Mission-Critical, Time-Sensitive Production Systems Successfully Designed And Tested With ObjectTeam

BEDFORD, Mass., Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The highly successful use of Cayenne Software's ObjectTeam to design the production systems for Volkswagen de Mexico -- the only Volkswagen production plant in the world which produces the New Beetle(R)-- has resulted in the standardization on ObjectTeam for all software analysis and design by the IT service subsidiary of Volkswagen which implemented the systems, Gedas North America.

ObjectTeam was used to design two complex, mission-critical systems: one for production control - interfacing between Gedas' manufacturing and production lines, and one for interfacing the production control system to managerial systems in Germany and factory suppliers world-wide. Gedas North America chose Cayenne's ObjectTeam, on the strengths of its functionality, performance, team support, and code generation capabilities.

The implementation of these systems needed to be accomplished against a very aggressive schedule. It was determined that new object-oriented technology was key to implementing these systems, yet it was extremely important that the tools selected had a short learning curve, and were capable of producing results very quickly.

''In August 1996, we found ourselves in the high-pressure position of manufacturing the New Beetle(R) sedan, which was to be introduced in early 1998 and needed to be ready for prototyping as soon as possible,'' said Jorge Malo, architectural and object-oriented factory manager at the Gedas NA offices. ''ObjectTeam's superior ability to build and generate code allowed us to develop, test and deploy the complex systems in one year. Without ObjectTeam, it would have taken much longer.''

Volkswagen's plan to invest substantial time and marketing dollars on the introduction of the New Beetle(R), and the anticipated high demand for the trendy automobile, placed Gedas North America under significant pressure to deliver smooth-running operational systems. ''Everything depended on finalizing these two production systems. Delays in production of the New Beetle(R) and the other vehicles could have cost thousands of dollars per day in lost revenue! The market would not wait,'' added Malo.

The contribution of ObjectTeam to Volkswagen's objectives continues. ''The synchronization between our two software systems is very complex, and the systems are running constantly - 24x7. Because of the high quality systems we developed with ObjectTeam, the downtime we experience is extremely low. This continually saves us money, because we would lose thousands of dollars a minute when these systems go down,'' said Malo.

The production of the New Beetle(R) has been so successful thus far that Gedas North America now requires all facilities to use Cayenne's ObjectTeam for software analysis and design projects - the first time Gedas North America has standardized on any technology. ''I have ten years of software development experience, and ObjectTeam is the most powerful and professional tool I have used. We would have been lost without it'', Malo concluded.

''Our mantra has always been that Cayenne has solutions for real business problems. Businesses need technology to achieve results, not technology for technology's sake'' said Michael Jannery, vice president of marketing for Cayenne. ''Gedas North America has demonstrated just how successfully ObjectTeam operates in a high-pressure, time-restricted environment, where every minute counts. They've proven that applying the right technology can produce significant added value.''

Cayenne Software Unveils ObjectTeam for the Linux Operating System

BEDFORD, Mass., Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Cayenne Software (Nasdaq: CAYN - news), a leading provider of component and data modeling solutions, today unveiled ObjectTeam for Linux -- a version of their acclaimed component modeling tool, on the popular Linux operating system. The initial configuration, ObjectTeam for Linux -- Personal Edition, is for personal use only and is available at no charge. A beta version of this configuration can be downloaded at Cayenne's web site at: www.cayennesoft.com. Professional and Enterprise editions, targeted for commercial use, will be released later in the year based on feedback from the beta tests.

ObjectTeam for Linux -- Personal Edition provides a customizable development environment, reverse engineering of C++ and Java components into models, an OMG UML 1.1 compliant Class Diagram editor, and support for the generation of C++ and Java components. It is a single user member of the ObjectTeam family, targeted at code-centric object-oriented design tasks.

''Cayenne has experienced first-hand the benefits and utility of Linux,'' said Michael Jannery, vice president of marketing for Cayenne. ''Cayenne is unique in that we use ObjectTeam to develop ObjectTeam. While our engineers use ObjectTeam on Solaris, AIX, HP/UX, and Windows NT at our development facilities, many of them have Linux at home, and use the Linux version to work after hours. So, in fact, Linux has played a role in ObjectTeam development for some time. We've finally decided to productize this platform and make it available to the growing Linux community.''

Since various Linux interest groups and newsgroups were notified of its availability early this morning, hundreds of people have downloaded copies of ObjectTeam for Linux, and have also subscribed to a dedicated newsgroup set up specifically for the product.

''This is another feather in the cap for Linux,'' said Michael McLagan, a spokesman for Linux Online, and general manager at Innovative Logic, a consulting company in Laurel, MD. ''Cayenne's ObjectTeam for Linux is a valuable addition to the Linux solution set that increasingly appeals to commercial customers.''

''We welcome Cayenne Software's support of the Linux Operating System,'' said Hilary Stokes, manager of product marketing for Red Hat Software, the leading Linux vendor. ''The availability of software development tools for Linux strengthens what is already a powerful, stable, and scalable OS. With the support of vendors such as Cayenne Software, Linux continues to establish itself as a viable enterprise-class solution.''

Henry,

With these latest news releases, it doesn't sound like the company is going out of business or bankrupt to me, but then I've been known to be wrong.
