In the August issue, Ron Leckie, INFRASTRUCTURE's CEO, discusses
the topic of System-On-a-Chip (SOC). Leckie describes the test
challenges of SOCs and identifies some of the approaches being taken
by companies like Hewlett Packard (NYSE:HWP); LTX Corp. (Nasdaq:LTXX);
Schlumberger (NYSE:SLB); and Teradyne (NYSE:TER). He observes,
"These traditional test equipment companies are only taking
traditional approaches to the problems." He added, "What the
industry needs is some innovative, breakthrough thinking to address
how test suites can be made as modular, portable and re-usable as the
design cores for SOCs." Solutions to this may come not only from
public CAE companies like Cadence Design Systems (NYSE:CDN) and Mentor
Graphics (Nasdaq:MENT), but also from some very interesting private
companies like LogicVision and Opmaxx.
