Hi Darleen

Although most people may not "require" the speed on the internet, i think most people want it. IMO one of the best ways to judge computer technology is to compare it to the TV. If there is going to be 2 or three computers per household, it has to become as simple and easy to use as your television. This is why I am attracted to @home, it seems to me to be a good step in this direction..

Many people would still have televisions if it took an hour to download your favorite tv show, but everybody has a TV, because the picture is instant.

So while people can survive with a lack of speed, its the speed that is a major factor in further integrating computers and the internet into our lives.

I don't think the need for speed is an issue, because it is there. It is the technology and the cost to deliver the speed that are the issues.

You are definitely right about AOL marketing, over the course of my computer travels i've probably been given 9 or 10 free disks and CD ROMS, offering free trial etc. The have a wonderful marketing machine, too bad the service cant keep up.

Jay

>>I don't like AOL but that is just me the majority do it is simple and well advertised that is the key. <<

Hey, would you mind diagramming that sentence for me? lol.

All I know is, I'm downloading a file right now, and it takes me 30 seconds to switch pages here, and that SUCKS. I'd gladly pay an extra $10/month to avoid this mental anguish. ATHM will be available in parts of Southeastern PA this Fall!
