I agree with Tobin. Jobs in Newfoundland are important. It pays to look long term and keep industry here. Push Inco for a solution that will retrain the hookers. (of fish) ( fade to large person in a mack with eyes set one inch apart like a front facing mackerel he leans against an imaginary wind, standing on slippery rock, with hands firmly in pockets and a bottle hanging out of his breast pocket .. an announcer pleads with him ... do you get me bye? jobs...jobs.. pay cheque.. aye.. yuh go to that plant there and stand around til quitting time.. "you don't mean work do yuh?", he says. Aye, bye, but it's not like you would work up a sweat.. we never fear that bye...
" well I guess it's ok if me cuzin can come with me.. he sets me bait" )

I agree with Inco. They paid a lot in a high market. They are now in a low one. Capital expenditures are not_a_good_idea. Make the most money, make the most for the area you work in.

So a mutually beneficial compromise should be there. Lets go over the figures and debate them column by column. Open the books. Of course Inco does not want tell how much it make on Platinum overseas. That would be wrong.

But it should be allowed to make case for mining it the way they want now. After all it is at least the largest nickel marketer in the world. If they aren't chasing max buck and that alone then no one is.

If Tobins bends he will not break. Inco probably WILL mine the VB underground ten years from now. They don't have to make that decision now. Tobin is trying to head off Pacific nickel commitment by Inco. It is a tight rope.

Why not allow refining in NFLD and smelting in Sudbury. Shipment of Pt to Europe and conditional sale (RFR) of the underground back to the province with the mill if they don't want it then?

Everybody's happy and the hookers will be back to work.
