mike--

maybe if INTC went 50% below AMD people might buy them<G>.

you made a critical point on the demand side. win9x maxes out at 32. having more can speed some things up, but for the most part with win9x, you just dont need more than 32. the OEMs are adding DRAM to units because it is cheap and gives them the ability to maintain certain price points. when it stops getting cheap...well, you already know what happens then<G>.

what suprises me is that cutbacks in production are deemed good. if thats what it takes to hold up the prices, how healthy can the industry be?

good luck to all,
trey

MB,
OK, this is what I heard today:
GTW has over 90k systems on backorder due to your;aware program, its hot.
spot is 64M pc66 8.90-9.10, 64M pc100 is 9.50-10.00. Thats real spot not AICE.
Micron is selling 64M pc100 8mx8 for .10-.15 higher, Samsung is up to .50 higher(this is normal).
Dell appears to be strong, but no facts. Strong in Europe.
I know that Dataquest is totally wrong, but I have sold the MU shares I had today and took a profit figuring it was under pressure. I will hold my calls and repurchase some shares once everyone realizes the DRAM market is tighter than being said by Dataquest.
This is really way I like it, confusing like back in Feb. There is money to be made if the total market holds together.
Thats my cut for what its worth, hope to see MU hit bottom and turn by the end of this week once the information settles out.
good trading.

MB,
Another interesting point, Intel is trying separate their systems by telling the pc guys no more slow pentII's only 350Mhz and higher and use 64M bytes min. This will keep celeron a little more distance from the PentII 300 and 333 by making them disappear. I may have some of the strategy missing but it was clear to me when their new pricing came out that celeron now with 128k L2 and up to 333mhz was too close to pentiumII 333. You are absolutely right on about AMD being a better cpu than celeron, but the Dells and Gateways will use them as long as they stay captive and they are close in performance.
The Koreans have all agreed to shut down for now, so no matter what
they are sticking by the agreement. They believe added together they represent enough market share to affect the market, thus it continues, and I think its already having some small effect at least in the spot and in the secondary OEM market, just ask any of them...
Unfortunately the module makers are in the sqeeze at the moment until the pc guys are willing to pay more for those modules, and they are starting to.
Good trading.

mike, don't look now but piis are now sub $1k boxes. the need to upgrade at any given point in the future is being slowly reduced daily.
