The Vancouver Sun reports in a lead business story in its Friday
edition that the Alberta Stock Exchange, acting on a growing chorus
of discontent, is trying to lure disgruntled companies away from the
Vancouver Stock Exchange. Reporter Barbara Aarsteinsen says that
armed with strong incentives, the ASE will hold two seminars in
Vancouver in early September outlining the benefits of a switch.
The bait includes an "expedited" listing program and a waiver of
initial listing fees for companies that meet certain criteria. The fees
normally run from $4,000 to $15,000. The ASE is the
fastest-growing of the junior exchanges and it is a pretty good
springboard to senior exchanges, according to ASE executive
vice-president Gerry Romanzin. He says that 180 of the ASE's
companies have graduated to the Toronto Stock Exchange in the last
ten years. The VSE says it is not ready to comment on the ASE's
incursion.
