All: HS601 processor failure analysis results as posted on Yahoo GMH thread on August 6: "Steve Dorfman announced this morning that the probable cause in the loss of 3 of the 4 spacecraft control processors was a relay switch which grew metallic crystalline fibers (aka "wiskers") which shorted to ground. This caused a fuse to blow rendering the SPC unusable. Mr Dorfman said that all new birds have relays made of a different type of metal. He didn't say how many of the 35 other inorbit HS601's were made with potential whisker forming relays. The fourth failure was of a diiferent type which he classified as a random error. " Can't vouch for the accuracy of above, but it seems plausible enough to me. Regards, RS
