Microsoft founders sell Gates, Allen plan to shed 2.5 million shares from holdings

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Microsoft Corp. co-founders Bill
Gates and Paul Allen intend to sell 2.5 million shares of the
software giant, according to a government filing.
The pair notified the Securities & Exchange Commission of
their intent to sell. Gates plans to sell 1.5 million shares valued
at about $165 million. Allen plans to sell about 1 million shares
valued at $111.5 million.
Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) officials could not confirm
Monday whether the sales had gone through. The sales were
announced through Form 144 filings on Aug. 6 with theSecurities and Exchange Commission.
Allen's sale was handled through BT Alex. Brown and
Gates' through Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Securities Corp.
Since May 1, Gates and two of his charitable foundations
have sold more than 6 million shares, according to SEC filings.
Allen has sold more than 9 million sales from May 4 through
July 31.
