Greg,

I suppose the expression " hate the sin and love the sinner " would
fit in here nicely, or "let one hundred guilty men go free before one innocent man be condemned."

My view is that prison should be punishment with the chance or means of rehabilitation being offered as a privilege, not a right. Justice to me is retribution for society and the victim being wronged more so than a counselling session with movies and pop corn.
i.e. If convicted of stealing you work to pay back what was stolen threefold and pay back all costs incurred by society. If you commit murder you lose your own life. I see a murderers rights ending upon conviction just as certainly as the victims life was ended.
I see the rights of society and the victim as being one hundred times more important than the rights of the guilty party.
Please note I am saying the guilty party. Due process of law, innocent until proven guilty.
With that thought what incredible responsibility is invoked upon the judicial system to be exactly that...." Just "
Judges, police officers, all officials are even more accountable to God because of what Romans 13 says.
All rights for convicted persons being stripped away? I do not advocate torture or Turkish prison settings obviously. With the exception of a few facilities, I have seen free people living in far worse surroundings. The ones I deemed poor were due to overcrowding.

Good discussion and may God bless,
John
