Jeff-

Regarding MPRS takeover - The buzz has been HAS or MWY.

When I read this article about Hasbro's takeover of Avalon Hill and the fact that they are not interested in AH's war games; it makes me wonder if HAS made this decision because they intend to own MPRS's titles.

Just a guess on my part, but we shall soon see. Looks like it could be a challenging day in the stock market game.

This X-mas season's game lineup...

Hi Jeff,

I'm mostly a console gamer (though I do pay some attention to PC games), but this X-mas has definitely got a huge flood of potential-blockbuster games. From a gamer's perspective, it's awfully cool -- but from a publisher's perspective, it means a really crowded market. In fact, Crave Entertainment recently announced that their big X-mas Playstation game (Shadow Madness) will be pushed back to early 1999 to avoid what they see as an over-crowded X-mas game release schedule. Don't know how effective that strategy is (since you miss out on the holiday shopping season), but it is one approach.

The delay is not set in stone but it comes from my sellside sources.
So take it with a grain of salt. Regarding MPRS, I don't have any
specifics on the takeover.

I think EIDOS has performed reasonably well considering the macro
environment in the U.K.: higher wages/inflation and the Bank of
England in a tightening mode. If the BoE continues with its tight
monetary policy, the UK will be one the first European markets to
crack. I think this is a risk that we have not looked at closely:
that the prospect of an economic slowdown is far bigger in the UK
now than it is in the US where clearly the Federal Reserve is on
hold. This is one issue that makes this year very different than a
year ago when it was still unclear if the BoE would embark on a
tightening policy.
