Margaret. The up move in Intel last night didn't do too much for the stock today but a lot of the other tech stocks did take it on the chin also. First B. Biggs from Morgan Stanley Dean Witter makes an appearance on CNBC yesterday and tells us the techs will be hit next and then CNBC brings reinforcement from the same Brokerage house - Byron Wien - and he tells us that there is more downside. But at least he thinks that there will be another nice up swing before it gets hit a lot more later this year. But he does not think it is a bear market. I wonder who CNBC will dig up tomorrow. M. Metz and G. Dudack were already on. But who knows, maybe they will show us every Bear again.

There were a lot of rumors floating around about the currencies. Indonesia was supposed to default on some debt but now it is being said it WAS just a rumor. Those guys try everything to bring the market down more. Well, maybe we get another good buying opp. in the tech stocks. Are you pleased the way CPQ is holding up now that you own it?

Have a nice trip to N.O. We will be leaving for a cpl of days with my step daughter and the grandchildren from Seattle. They will be spending the rest of the week down there with Relatives.

Sonny

Margaret. Not only can we not figure out from one minute to the next what the market is doing it is also hard to keep all those predictions from those analyst we listen to straight. gg. I have to make a quick correction here.

I heard Byron Wien from Morgan Stanley Dean Witter in sev. little play backs on CNBC. I may have attributed something to him he may not have said. What he said was something like: He would not buy on this dip until it goes a bit lower. He does not think it is a bear market but it will probably not go past its old high on the next move. But he sees a light at the end of the tunnel regarding this selling pressure. It must have been somebody else who said that after new buying there will be another bigger dip later on. Anyhow, I thought I straighten this out quick while I was checking my portfolio before leaving it alone for a while. I sure hope the market behaves in the next cpl of days. The 50% comeback of the DOW today was a bit encouraging but like Frank says: We have to see what the overseas markets will be doing and the yen will have to stabilize a bit.

Talk to you in a cpl of days.
