Jim, if Antares got their knickers in a knot worrying about their reputation being damaged by one little pissant SI poster, then just what is that reputation worth on the open market? The stock closed today at sixteen cents. Can it reasonably be argued that the reputation is worth more? Remember that this is one of their own shareholders they are threatening - one who mentions back in January that each bite of a sandwich he ate at the AGM cost him two grand. He's paid for the privilege to vent. Not that I respect a frustrated rant, but some will do that, and it is an open forum. Did he cross the line into uncivilised behaviour - oh yeah, sure. But Antares has crossed a much more important line, a line that affects all of us and the future of online discussion. They have threatened the use of brute force, of using the shareholders funds as a legal club against them should they or anyone else question the infallibility of management. Well - horseshit, I say. Bottom line - No company must ever be permitted to manipulate in any way its SI thread. No company. Ever. In any way. Yes, the libel laws in Canada make it possible to harass your critic, that's true. But that doesn't make it right and just and fair. Using those laws will kill any usefulness online discussion might have had. Or it will kill the laws - which would be my fervent hope. For what it's worth - I am a mejicano/Canadian, and have spent a lot of time in all three countries, including the US. I have seen and known many types and degrees of freedom and non-freedom. I know what jungle law is, and the reality of living under it. I am completely convinced that the way out of jungle law is to first establish the fundamental freedom of speech, free from threats of brute force such as physical threats or lawsuits, and then all other freedoms will flow in good time from that one. I wouldn't live in the United States if you paid me, but in one way they are a shining example to the planet - they have the most free speech on Earth. And for that they have my respect. ...... cheers .... marcos
