I agree with Laura. She never said that there was no risk, there is a lot of it. The long term options VS. short term options do protect against a temporary downturn somewhat. She is correct. The time factor is not a daily concern like it would be if the option was due to expire in a few days or weeks. Also, this is a thread that is open for all discussion. It is good for everyone to share their own thoughts. That's why this thing exists! Remember Bob you are giving advice yourself when you steer someone to owning stock. Not too sure anyone should listen to someone like yourself who tries to silence others ideas. Its all a risk and everyone has to make up their own minds, and its very unhealthy for someone to start telling others to stop saying what they think, especially when asked for their opinion.
