Excellent post and very thoughtful too. I agree that there needs to be more thoughtful product planning and would add that data transfer speed issues need to be addressed. Iomega had a great product in 95 and it still is not bad compared to the standard 3.5 floppy. I am not sure that the product is that bad compared to the LS-120, however, that is not the only competition there is or will be in this market.

The idea of a merger is one that I have had for quite some time and believe that it would be for the best of shareholders and the future of the industry. I haven't had much thought of QNTM although they certainly seem to have their stuff together. I thought with Shugart getting booted out of Seagate that the new management might be open for a merger.

If you go from that basis then a merger with SEG or QNTM would equal a $10 billion company. Just a little food for thought.
