Comparing acquisitions made by Lycos v. Amazongonenuts.com looks interesting. LCOS purchased WhoWhere! - "WhoWhere? properties include Angelfire, a community site with 1.3 million members; MailCity, a free e-mail service with 9.3 million registered users; and WhoWhere?, the third largest online directory service."

This compares to jolly Amazon.com's recent purchases which netted about 1.6 million subscribers and cost $300 million in stock and options.

Lycos is also tied into the very popular eBay site.
