I think it's agreat move for Lycos, but I'm not sure it lives up to its billing of "dramatically changing the portal landcape".

It can't make any sense because Lycos didn't pay enough for it. If Amazon.con had bought WhoWhere! they would have gladly paid $550 million in undervalued stock and Amazon.con would have shot up 50 points due to the incredible number of customers they would gain. Besides, Lycos can't possibly be real competition because there name just isn't nearly as cool as Amazon.con ; -).
The market doesn't have to make sense to make Amazon.com insiders, VCs and bankers fabulously rich!
