Does anyone know why SGI would want to own 26.4% of NINE?

Nine has good pc video hardware, looks like they will be neck&neck with S3 for price and performance on the next generation of 3D video cards, and performance leader on the high end (no announced card, but their chip can access more memory than S3's).

Nine is "cheap" due to poor price/performance of previous products.
Nine is SGI's partner for Visual PC video.
SGI may very likely buy Nine within 6 months, depending on the company's cash flow for that period.

Paid 2.75/share - todays close 1.875/share - looks like a loss already of $2,931,095.10 - For some reason I am reminded of the old saying about sticking your money up a hog's butt and hollering SOOOOIIIIIEEE!!!!!! On the other hand maybe I am just thinking of my own investment in SGI.
