I used to think the question was;-

I now believe that they have all along not been interested in the least in a 'restructuring ' to suit us.

I believe they are going to do what they think suits them. If the US markets panic and cause a maasive slowdown in the US economy then we have to ask do the Japanese see that as postive or negative for them?

I think we have to ask whether the Japanese are beginning to de-link from the US and 'start their own business' and be a player in their own right. I think they have seen they way the US has reacted to recent economic and world events and may have decided that it doesn't fit their view of a tough World leader.
