Gary, thanks for the comments. Didn't ASND recently open a new facility in Mountain View? My point was that the most successful data networkers to date (apologies to NN, FORE, CS and various Massachusetts-based companies) have been located in the SF Bay Area (not just Silicon Valley?) and there is much engineering/sales talent to be had here by the voice equipment companies (LU, NT, ERICY, Siemens, etc.) as they move to add data capabilities.

Gary, I agree that it does not matter where Ascend happens to be located. One of their main selling points used to be to come work at Ascend and avoid the traffic. It is an opposite commute if you are in Silicon Valley and you get to look at everyone stuck in traffic as you cruise up 880.....Ascend's Core Division is in Mass so you could say they are split between two coasts. The main reason LU would/should buy Ascend is for technology only! Ascend is right where they need to be whether LU comes knocking or not. Philly714
