Baird,

I believe we all agree that the short term is bleak, that the long term is rosy. Unfortunately, I don't believe a common view of Short or Long term is shared. Nor do I know how much bad news has been discounted by the market. If I look at AMAT's stock price, I'd say not much, but then I don't have any AMAT shares (directly) today.

Re: One other concern in the report is the lowered tax rate in the most recent period. Since that apparently increased EPS by $0.02, it means AMAT didn't exceed estimates by much on a comparable earnings basis.

They also reported .06 per share of restructuring charges, so it looks to me like the adjustment for operating earnings would be a net +.04, for a total of 0.23 per share. Doubt if it's going to make up for the poor outlook, though.
