Hi Jim,
Glad to hear you are recharging your batteries.
The Yamaha company is the largest musical instrument company in the world and with their operating budget, can afford to lend their products out more readily and also pay to sponsor the whole show. So I would say the Yamaha drums you saw were loaners while the Ayotte drums were bought and owned by those playing them.
I mentioned your comments to a staff member and he said:
"Getting Ayotte Drums on stage would have been no small task since Yamaha tries very hard to exclude other manufacturers."
I can see were Yamaha is coming from if they are the exclusive sponsor of the show. However, as with the Vancouver Jazz Festival where Ayotte was the official drums sponsor, if a drummer wished to use his own kit we did not get in their way at all. There is more than enough room for all drum companies without being petty about it.

Regards,
Mayo
