I agree with you on the charm of the smaller locations. But, I think the reason CHGO is expanding via the larger brew pub/pizza facilities is due to the extremely successful Brea and Boulder locations. These two locations produce over $6 million in annual sales and $1.6 million in operating cash flow. That is nearly a quarter of CHGO revenues from these two stores alone. These locations are also reporting healthy same store sales increases. Total cost to build these two was about $3 million, which is now producing $1.6 million in free cash flow. You might want to check out the Brea location, I hear that place is packed almost every night as well.

1) Go to BJs website www.bjsbrewhouse.com and check for locations and they will send you to a map. Brea seems sort of at the edge of a few things, and not far from Anaheim.

The large format restaurants are being pursued based on the financials they have been achieving with them. And the Brea location was packed with kids and families at dinner time--the crowd changes later on. The difference perhaps between the junky brewpub places you refer to whcih i have seen around is that they look like junky little places whcih i wouldnt have much interest in. And the food at the BJs, as you know, is excellent...as well as the service .....and the beer. Quality counts.
