Small Bank IT Outsourcing Opportunities-
Y2K issues with legacy software may cause small banks to consider selling the shop to a larger bank.

Both Citicorp (CCI - news) and Electronic Data Systems Corp. (EDS - news) believe many small to midsized firms will ''recognize their fate'' by late 1998 or early 1999 and put themselves on the block, according to Goldman.

Goldman recently held a conference on banking and the Year 2000 issue in New York for clients.

''Regulators have been so adamant on this issue .... if it looks like a bank is not going to make it, they may be encouraged to sell,'' she said.
****************************
An option to selling is outsourcing the IT function. THIS is the kind of Y2K business that will really count. Instead of a labor intensive death march to fix old systems, EDS can install new systems on 10 year outsourcing contracts that not only fix Y2K problems but provide additional capabilities such as ERP support. What a deal!
